Lucy Pet Products is entering what is expected to be certified by Guinness World Records as the longest and heaviest single chassis float in Rose Parade history. Referred to as Lucy Pet’s Gnarly Crankin’ K9 Wave Maker, this beachside paradise themed 2017 entry will measure over 125-feet long and weigh over 136,000 lbs. when filled with 8,000 gallons of water. During the parade an onboard wave machine will generate waves on which eight dogs will surf the length of the 90-foot tank.
“I set the world record five years ago for the longest and heaviest Rose Parade float,” says Joey Herrick founder and owner of Lucy Pet Products. “Now it’s time to break that record with a new float that is 6 feet longer and 10,000 lbs. heavier. Not only are we setting two new Guinness World Records, but I created the first-ever portable wave maker and traveled coast-to-coast auditioning over 1,000 surfing dogs to find the best ever to ride our float. This is a big year for Lucy Pet!!!”
This giant float will be powered by a Built Ford Tough 6.8 liter V10 gasoline engine. The driver will sit deep in the bowels of the float and rely on a navigator sitting atop the float to relay directions to him as he steers down the parade route.
The eight dogs who will be surfing on the float were chosen during a five-city nationwide series of auditions. “These are real water dogs who can’t wait to get on the surfboard,” added Herrick. “I don’t know who will be having more fun the surfing dogs or the millions of people who will be watching all around the world!”
Also set to ride atop the Lucy Pet’s Gnarly Crankin’ K9 Wave Maker is 13-year-old pop star and internet sensation JoJo Siwa. An avid pet lover with three dogs, this is Siwa’s first time riding a float in the Annual Tournament of Roses Parade.
